The Concordia Stingers continue to the hottest thing in Women’s U Sports hockey, and are now unbeaten through six matches – the most recent of which coming at Place Bell, home to the Montreal Victoire and Laval Rocket, where Émilie Lussier scored twice, including a short-handed tally, to boost the Stingers to a 2-0 win over the McGill Martlets.
Tonight though, the visiting Bishop’s Gaiters gave Concordia perhaps their biggest test of the season.
Émilie Lussier continued to put up points, as she opened the scoring halfway through the first period, in what proved to be the only goal of the opening twenty minutes. The action was back and forth with the Gaiters finding their form in the early minutes of the second period, and eventually finding the equalizing goal 13 minutes in – but the Stingers responded quickly, retaking the lead just two minutes later when Megan Bureau-Gagnon found the back of the net.
Bishop’s came out with a bee in their collective bonnet to start the third period, finding the tying goal just seconds – tying the game up at two goals a piece. Midway through the period, Bishop’s took a penalty and Zoé Thibault capitalized on it to once again put the Stingers ahead.
In the dwindling minutes, the Gaiters again showed great resolve and found a late goal to once again tie the game up and force overtime.
With their winning streak on the line, who else but Émilie Lussier would come through, scoring her second goal of the game 3 minutes into the overtime period to give the Concordia Stingers the 4-3 win, and keep them atop the standings.

The Concordia Stingers hit the road to take on the Bishop’s Gaiters on their own turf on Sunday, with their unbeaten record still intact but aware that the Gaiters are a strong team that took them to their limit.
