Impressive street art sprayed at 9th edition of Canettes De Ruelle

Stretched over three days this labor day weekend, was the 9th edition of Canettes De Ruelle – a street art and graffiti festival akin to Montreal’s two other and better known urban art festivals, Mural and Under Pressure, only Canettes De Ruelle focuses more on the artists at a street level.

Some call it vandalism, others expression or voice, but regardless – few can if any can say that there wasn’t a massive display of talent of display in the alleyways on old Rosemount this weekend, where their welcomed works of art will now reside until they get primed over to make way for fresh pieces at next years festival.

There are many things that make Montreal an incredible city and one of the best places to live, and its love for art is high up on that list. How many cities across the globe are free to express themselves in such a manor, as the legal graffiti and street art murals and pieces that went up in this winding maze of alleyways. Areas where kids play, surrounded by colorful art that surely will inspire imagination as they grow into the leaders of tomorrow.

Montreal doesn’t just have one such festival – but three. Truly, that is something to think about and appreciate. Freedom comes through art, and if that really is truth, then how great is Montreal.

As each and every year passes on by, the levels of skill and creativity continue to grow and with that comes better and better art work, splashed, sprayed and paint brushed across the brickwork. Some of it done with stencils, others constantly referred to sketches and drawings for references – and others that free styled everything.

When the sweet stench of spray paint had dissipated, and the brushes rinsed and the dust settled. This barrage of artists had left these alleyways bright, colorful, full of beauty and art. Treasures to be found by wanders who happen past, and eye candy for those that reside in the area.

Canettes De Ruelle has run its course for this year, and what a glorious long weekend it was.

Anyone interested in viewing these pieces of art can do so by walking the alleyways that run behind boulevard Masson in Rosemount. Something to do while out getting in some exercise; a stretch of the legs and candy for the mind.
