Concordia Stingers dismantle the visiting Waterloo Warriors

The Concordia Stingers played the second game of a home and home back to back tonight, when they welcomed the visiting Waterloo Warriors, hoping for a better result than last night’s loss to the Windsor Lancers.

It was clear from the start of this game, that the Stingers were salty about their most recent defeat, and had plans to take out their angst on the Waterloo Warriors. The result was a fairly chippy game that saw the Stingers fling a lot of rubber at their opposing goaltender; amassing more than forty shots on goal in the contest.

The game began with some solid physical play from both sides as the two teams battled for puck control and felt each other out. Waterloo held the visual size advantage, with several very large and imposing players, whoever, the Stingers continued to chip away at them despite the obvious size mismatch. The Warriors tried to intimidate the Stingers with a barrage of big hits, but Concordia were equal to the task, throwing as good as they took.

Just before the nine minute mark of the first period, Daniel Agostino slotted home his third of the season, assisted by Alexandre Nadeau and Edouard Charron, to give the Stingers the early lead.

Fifteen seconds later, Agostino was again on the score sheet, but this time for having been served a minor penalty for clipping, as the Stingers played dice with a series of undisciplined penalties. Sean Larochelle served two for tripping, and Edouard Charron took two for slashing. Luckily enough for the Stingers, the Warriors weren’t able to convert on their man-advantages and the first period ended with Concordia up by a goal.

Seconds into the second period, Concordia’s Isiah Campbell sailed down the fresh ice and beat Waterloo goaltender Dan Murphy for his sixth goal of the season, giving the Stingers a two goal advantage. Four minutes later, Nicholas Girouard took advantage of a minor penalty served to Waterloo’s Owen Wilson for hooking, scoring his ninth goal of the year assisted by Vincent Nardone and Isiah Campbell, as Concordia stormed into a command three-goal lead.

Three minutes later, Waterloo again had a man-advantage attempt as Concordia’s Christopher Inniss  was assessed two minutes for tripping. This time, the Warriors made sure to capitalize on their power play chance, as Adamo Santia fired home his fifth of the rear, assisted by Tate Popple and Jaxson Murray. Waterloo pulled within two.

The Stingers started off the third like they had the second – with an early goal. Vincent Nardone scored his third of the season, assisted by Blake Richardson, to once again give the home side a three goal lead.

Five minutes later, Waterloo would find their second goal of the game, when Liam Fedak scored his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Adamo Santia, but that would be as close as the Warriors would get as the Stingers dominated the rest of the way.

Concordia racked up a further three goals in the final five minutes of play, when Charles Savoie scored his 6th, assisted by Mikael Huchette and Sean Larochelle, Gabriel Proulx notched his 7th, assisted by Alexandre Nadeau and Vincent Fredette and finally Nadeau tallied his 4th of the season, assisted by Gabriel Proulx and Daniel Agostino.
