Joanna Angel “Club 42” Review

Adult film icon, Joanna Angel, has penned a new book book, titled Club 42. And it’s a whole lot of naughty fun!

When I was young, I could often be found with a book in my hands. Times were different then – we didn’t have cell phones or video games, other than Atari systems that I nor any of my friends owned. We had action figures and library cards. Books. Lots and lots of books, and I loved to read them. Both my Mother and my Grandfather were avid readers – and writers, so I was taught to read and write at a very young age. Younger than you might think. In fact, literature was such a big deal in my upbringing – that asides from the reading my sister and I did ourselves, we would also be treated to a chapter of whichever book our Mother was reading to us at that time. More often than not, it would be the works of Enid Blyton or C.S Lewis. Moreover, the bunk bed we shared nearly always had the books we were reading privately stashed beneath the pillows.

On Fridays, we would stop by the library on the walk home from school to pull out our next adventure. Sometimes, just sometimes, we would be treated with a visit to the local used book shop. It was there that I first experienced the choose your own adventure fables that soon became a favorite of mine. When you’re young – elementary school age, a book that has multiple endings is a magical device. Something mystical and strange. Darting about from page to page, depending on what you wanted the protagonist of the story to do next was whimsical and mind-altering. Powerful.

Then one day, so many years removed from my youth – more than I am willing to divulge, in fact, an email arrives addressed to me. Inside it, is a download link to a promotional copy of a new book – a choose your own adventure. Obviously, I couldn’t see my own face – although, thinking about it, I probably should have lied and told you that I saw the reflection of my face in my computer screen – but that would be dishonest. Because I’m never dishonest. Oh, you can’t see that I’m winking. Never mind. Moving alone. Not only is this a choose your own adventure – get this, it’s an adult… choose your own adventure book. In all my days, I had no idea that such a thing could even exist. It does.

Now, you, the reader have a little choose your adventure to select right here. See, you can choose to stop reading now, and follow this link to obtain your own copy – or – Or, you can risk it all, and read on. There may well be spoilers ahead. Although, yes, I’ll try keep those to a minimum, if any at all. But with all this excitement flowing through me, I can’t and I won’t guarantee that a thing or two may slip out. What will you do? To stop now and buy your own copy, press here. To carry on reading, taking your peril into your own hands, scroll on down.

In my adult life, I read far less books than I used to. Not by choice. Because life, as we age, grows busier with each passing year. Work gets in the way of what we truly want to be doing. Responsibilities and all that crap. Yet, the day I discovered this book, I found myself sat at the desk, eyes burning from the neon glare of the computer screen, totally glued to this book. Transfixed by Club 42. It’s four o’clock in the morning by the time I’m finished and I am half-tempted to restart it and seek out another ending. Alas, I am also half-asleep so this will have to wait for another day.

Naomi loves coffee, but does not love serving it and is fired one fated afternoon after spilling a cup of coffee all over a customer and her white pantsuit. With her rent due in a few days, Naomi is desperate to find a new job. On her walk back to the subway, she trips and falls, landing right in front of what would soon be her new place of employment. Enter Club 42, a strip club located in Times Square. Naomi goes inside on a whim and finds herself agreeing to audition, stripping out of her polka dot summer dress and kitten heels and earning a spot on the day shift.

Throughout Club 42, you’ll learn about Naomi and navigate her through her day shifts at Club 42. You, the reader, get to decide if she should give an old crush a lap dance, give her ex the “extras” in the VIP room, get dominated in a dungeon, tell her not-quite-boyfriend about her career path, indulge in her attraction to her beautiful coworkers, or leave her life of dancing as quickly as she starts it! No matter which path you choose, you’ll get an insider’s glimpse into the erotic, neon world of New York strip clubs.

Club 42 is an engrossing trip through the sleazy underbelly that, if we’re honest with ourselves, we all know and love. If even just a little bit. A romp through adult adventures and situations that are hilarious at times, and down right raunchy at others. With a wealth of experience at the helm of a whole collection of adult films, Angel is able to translate film to book – which normally happens the other way around. There are parts that will make prudes blush, and others that’ll unleash theĀ  inner slut.

Joanna Angel is an adult film star and owner of the rather popular website named Burning Angel (If you’re under 18 years old and clicked that link – you’re going to hell. Also, we aren’t liable for anything you may or may not see. Psst! It’s Punk Rock Porn!) A former model over at Suicide Girls, director, producer and author. This – Club 42, is her second book.

Club 42 is published by Cleis Press and available as of February 16, 2021. Available in paperback and on Kindle. With all the page swopping you’ll be doing, though – the physical copy is the better bet. A warning though, there is a scene where, oh, it’s almost too horrible to put into words… where, where Naomi dances to a Nickleback song. Ah! that’s enough to put anyone off their dinner. Nickleback!? Oh! The humanity!
