REM prepares to open its Deux-Montagnes line this November
The long awaited REM monorail train system to Deux-Montagnes will soon be opening this November, providing everything remains on track until then.
In total, fourteen new REM stations are scheduled to open along the Deux-Montagnes line, that now has a launch date of November 17th. The line is to provide service from downtown Montreal to the suburb just northwest of Laval, Que. Currently, the REM runs from Brossard, on the South Shore, to Montreal’s Gare Centrale station.

However, commuters may be put off to learn that the last train leaving the Brossard station for Deux-Montagnes departs at 20:30 pm.
The reason for this, according to the CDPQ Infra , is to allow further testing on the final stretch of track that has yet to open. Once those tests are complete, service should then run until 1:30 am on week days, with no word on what time the service will conclude on weekends. Being that the REM is an electric driverless system, some argue that the REM network could and should run through the night.

Despite the entire REM shutting down for six weeks this past summer, the REM says it still needs to continue running tests on the Anse-à-l’Orme line that stretches into the West Island, ending at Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue. A line that won’t open until at least the spring of 2026.
Should everything remain on its current trajectory, the REM project will have taken eight longs years to complete. Several delays have already pushed back the opening of the REM transit system, therefore some commuters question whether the West-island line, which includes a stop at the Pierre-Elliot Trudeau airport, will be operational by the springtime. Construction of the REM transit system began construction in 2018, with the South Shore branch of the REM began operating in July 2023.
For residents of the Deux-Montagnes region, however, the opening of the REM station will come as a welcomed addition to a troubled public transportation system, that has already left residents in the lurch.

Service between Bois-Franc and Central Station was ended on May 11, 2020. On December 31, 2020, the rest of the Deux-Montagnes line closed permanently in favor of REM service which will operate along the same route.
Five years later, train service is set to return to the people of Deux-Montagnes.
