Turgeman earns ire of Montreal as they draw New England Revolution
Tonight, CF Montreal hosted the New England Revolution in the second of a three-game homestand at Stade Saputo, where Dor Turgeman did everything possible to get under the skin of the Montreal players and fans alike.
Among those three teams, were the top-seeded Nashville SC, second-place Inter Miami albeit sans Lionel Messi – and the third place New England Revolution, who prior to this evening’s kick-off, were unbeaten in its last two games since returning from the World Cup break. Needless to say, Montreal has been under trial by fire.

Yet, CF Montreal have only allowed three shots against them in that span, prior to tonight anyway, where goalkeeper Sebastian Breza has had the misfortune of facing a pair of penalty kicks. Both of those penalties though, were the key aspect to those games, as both were the only scoring plays as Montreal dropped well-played and hard fought battles to both Nashville SC and Inter Miami.
Montreal too, haven’t scored in their three last games and you would have to go back to their last most recent match in the Canadian Championship were they put up a pair over Vancouver FC> Tonight though, the levy would break so to speak.
For a third straight match, CF Montreal conceded a penalty, and for the second time in the last two games, the foul that lead to the penalty came at the hands – or feet – of Efrain Moreales. This time around, Morales was unfortunate. He had blocked a shot, and a second shot had come in that Morales again tried to block, only he played off his arm in the box.
Carles Gil stepped up to the spot and hit a shot into the top center of the goal, tricking goalkeeper Sebastian Breza to guess left. New England had the early lead.
Six minutes after the penalty, Dor Turgeman drew the ire of the 1642 supporters group with a blatant dive in the CF Montreal box, that caused members of the crowd to heckle him. Moments later, Turgeman would receive a pass in the box from Peyton Miller for the easiest tap in goal he’ll likely ever score, and chose to celebrate it by taunting the crowd. This, in turned, annoyed goalkeeper Sebastian Breza enough that he decided to take matters into his own hands and a shoving match ensued between Breza and Turgeman that soon involved the majority of the players on the pitch.
For the rest of the match, each and every time Turgeman touch the ball, the crowd booed him. And that seemed to spark the Israeli striker who would have a few more chances at goal before the end of the match.
The New England Revolution held a two-goal lead at halftime.
The second half began with CF Montreal coaching swopping midfielder Matty Longstaff out for Olger Escobar, as Montreal manager Philippe Eullaffroy explored new strategies.
Seven minutes into the second half, and Brayden Vera cracks possible the best goal so far in this MLS season. Vera absolutely blasted a shot from miles out, that soared through the air and was still rising when it stretched the netting. This is something that Vera most certainly will need to keep trying, because it was an absolute screamer of a shot. Montreal were within one.
Seven minutes after that, Prince Owusu got his head on a cross from Luca Petrasso, effortlessly deflecting it into the goal beyond goalkeeper Matt Turner to tie the match at two all.
In the 61st minute, just after committing a foul that somehow went unbooked, Turgeman again had the chance to put his team ahead. Realizing that goalkeeper Breza was way out of of position, Turgeman smartly chipped the ball high and towards the goal face – but missed, and could only watch as the ball bounced just wide of the gapping goal mouth.
Six minutes on, and Turgeman under a shower of boos from the crowd, sprung free on net but couldn’t beat Breza, who stuck his foot in the path of the shot, to keep Montreal and New England level. Minutes later, Turgeman again was front and center, this time putting the ball into the net beyond Breza, only for the linesman to raise his flag for the offside. Still the game was tied at two a piece.

Two quick goals gave New England the lead in the first half, and two quick goals from Montreal in the second half dragged the squads back to level ground.
Next, CF Montreal will host DC United at Stade Saputo on August 15th, while the New England Revolution will host Houston Dynamo on August 8th.
