Montreal Oi! Fest lose headliner Bishops Green, announce replacement.

With Montreal’s 9th annual Oi! Fest quickly approaching, headliner Bishops Green have announced that they won’t be able to play as previously scheduled on April 26th.

The reason for the cancellation is a quite understandable one – it would seem that there is a serious health issue with either somebody in – or close to the band, and while music is the spice of life; health is ultimately the most important thing we have.

A statement from Bishops Green’s was posted to their facebook page in late March that read as follows:

“It is with deep regret that we must inform you of the cancellation of our Montreal show scheduled for late April, as well as all other engagements involving Bishops Green for the remainder of 2024.

This decision comes in light of a serious health issue within the Bishops Green family, necessitating us to pause all of our activities. We realize this news is disappointing and apologize for any disruptions it may cause. Our focus now shifts towards healing and recovery for the rest of the year.”

This left the festival very little time to find a replacement that will slot in ahead of the UK’s The Partisans as festival headliners – and earlier today, the new headliners were unveiled. That being none other than New York City’s own The Press.

The outspoken anti-fascist band were early members of Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice. Their songs appeared on several compilation albums, as well as a posthumous CD collection of their recordings called The Complete Press: 1984-1994, released in 2007 by Insurgence Records, re-released on vinyl in 2017. The Press reformed in 2016, following the death of founding member André Schlesinger, and has been releasing new songs and records ever since.
