Details for the 199th Montreal St. Patrick’s Day parade announced.

Although it would appear that winter never really set its claws into the fine of Montreal this year, a sure sign that spring is around the corner comes with the announcement of parade details for the 199th edition of the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Montreal’s festivities are the longest running behind only those of New York, and have been an integral part of Montreal culture since 1824. The global covid-19 pandemic may have ended its impressive run, whereas this year would have marked two centuries of the parade, but Irish spirits can not be damped.

This year the parade will fall on the actual day that is St. Patrick’s Day instead of the closest Sunday to the proper day. A rare occurrence indeed. For two centuries, the citizens of Montreal have gathered to parade and celebrate the people that helped build this fine city. A day of heritage, history and pride that always inevitably leads to a rollicking party that fills up the streets, then the bars in this historic city.

Hundreds of floats, marching bands, performers and revelers are expected to hit the streets, with thousands more stood on the sidewalks, cheering them on. As such, people will begin to arrive along the parade root as early as 11 am, in order to secure themselves the best possible vantage point from which to watch the festivities.

Those attending with small children should also be aware that drinking on the sidewalks will be taking place and that the possibility for rowdiness, however small, should be expected.

Road closures can be expected, making public transit the optimal way to reach the parade – which travels along the STM’s green line.
