No Fun At All “Grit” Review

No Fun At All
“Grit”
Bird Attack Records
Released: April 13, 2018

What is it about Sweden? So much great music comes out of such a small country. It’s really an impressive feat if you stop and think about it.

Progressive and highly talented music too. Especially if you’re into all the sub-genres of Rock. All that metal. But we’re talking Punk Rock here. No Fun At All are veterans of the game but have possibly just created their opus. A swan song.

No Fun At AllYes, “Grit” is that good. Especially for those that dig 90s era skate Punk. Like I damn well do. However, this isn’t just a rehashing – its a progression.

Sometimes a record comes along and just speaks to you. It arrives at a time in your life where you can relate to every note and syllable. This is true for me here. Much like it was when Social Distortion released “White Light, White Heat, White Trash”.

Lyrically, “Grit” is spot on. I almost wish I couldn’t relate so well to it as I do. Such is life, however. Cold. Hard and mean. Yet also great. In life, we roll with the punches. Live incredible highs and crushing lows. Balance. That’s what I’m telling you!

Musically, this record would have been dominant in the hay day of the genre. Up their with the Lagwagon’s and Strung Out’s. The No Use For A Name’s. The Offspring’s, well, up until “Xnay On The Hombre” anyway. I could go on and on. But you’d get annoyed and skip the rest. So enough of that. You get the point.

This is a fast-paced collection of songs. High energy and upbeat. The guitar work especially is outstanding. Then the vocal delivery is superb. There are strong melodies and harmonies here. The finished package sounds surprisingly fresh despite the genres long tenure. And far better than a lot of their peers. Those still in existence anyway.

This record, at the very least, deserves a few spins.
