The 200th edition of the Montreal Saint-Patrick-s day parade is one for the history books
Early morning rain may have cast doubts over the city of Montreal’s historic 200th running of the Saint-Patrick’s day parade, but as the noon starting time approached, it became apparent that the festivities would be taking place under perfect conditions.
Yes, the 200th edition of the Montreal Saint-Patrick-s day parade is one for the history books. Two centuries. The first Saint-Patrick’s day parade was held in 1824, making it one of the eldest and longest run on the planet.

This year, there more than three thousand people that participated in the parade itself, as the parade and festivities have slowly began to regain its pre-pandemic shape – and like last year, a little bit of rain wasn’t about to dampen the spirits of those that wanted to come out and celebrate. Those of Irish heritage and those that chose to be Irish for the day.
Early morning drizzle soaked the roads ahead of the parade – and the clouds above held off until the waning moments of the two kilometer path before opening up again.
Also in attendance, was interim Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who took over the lead of the Liberal party from Justin Trudeau just three days ago. While already in Quebec to meet with Quebec premier Francis Legault, Carney’s appearance was an unadvertised surprised for those that lined the sidewalks of De Maisonneuve street.

While no official number has been released, it was rumored than tens of thousands lined the streets to celebrate this historic day, when Montrealer’s walked the streets in celebration of Saint-Patrick’s day for the 200th time.
Two centuries is quite the feat – here’s to centuries more to come.
