The Offspring involved in an accident on a Quebec highway

Rimouski – August 7, 2022

Life on the road isn’t always as glamorous as most think it is – as Californian punk rockers The Offspring found out Saturday afternoon, when one pf their vehicles was involved in an accident.

For The Offspring, it was just another day on tour – headed down highway 20 en route to a show the next evening. Routine. Part and parcel of the lifestyle this and most every band has known for their entire careers. Only this day would yield unexpected surprises – and serious danger.

The incident took place at 1:37 pm, when a black Chevrolet Suburban used as part of the groups convoy, struck an unidentified object on the road near Rivière-Ouelle, and burst into flames. The vehicle was engulfed within seconds, not even allowing the driver time to pull off to the side of the road.

Guitarist Kevin Wasserman, affectionately known as Noodles,  shared a clip of the burning SUV and wrote “No one was hurt. Everyone got out of the vehicle unscathed. Unfortunately about half our crew lost all their belongings in the fire, including luggage, computers, & passports. But it could’ve been much worse. The band & I are so thankful & relieved that all involved are okay.

“No one is sure what started the fire yet, but the SUV hit something big and heavy, possibly a lost trailer hitch, and within seconds the vehicle was in flames. You can see from the video that they didn’t even get off the Highway before everyone had to bail. No time to save any belongings. Scary shit!

“Our crew do all the heavy lifting so that we look & sound as good as possible when we take the stage. They’re travel & workdays are always longer & more arduous than ours, and we can’t thank them enough for all they do. To see them have to go through something like this is heartbreaking & frightening. I am so glad they are all okay!”

The Offspring had been on their way from a show the night in Sherbrooke and were on their way to Rimouski for the next show when the incident occurred. Ironically, the band are on tour in support support of their new album, Let The Bad Times Roll. A tour they surely won’t forget any time in the foreseeable future.

Despite the accident, The Offspring still made their way to the show and performed at Les Grandes Fetes TELUS. How is that for determination. Something needs to be said for the determination of the group for showing and playing their set despite being involved in such a frightening accident a day prior.
