CF Montreal will face Forge FC in a the Canadian Championship
The next round of the Canadian Championship has been set, as it has been announced that CF Montreal will once again face Forge FC in a home and away series.
CF Montreal advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Toronto FC on penalty kicks, in what was just their first victory of their current campaign. Since then, CF Montreal have earned their win in the MLS, beating New York City FC at home at Yankee stadium, but to say their season hasn’t gone as planned would be an understatement.

Forge FC, on the other hand, are again amongst the best sides in the Canadian Premier League. Unbeaten through their first five matches of the season, Forge FC are currently third in the Canadian Premier League on nine points.
The last time Forge FC and CF Montreal met in the Canadian Championship, Forge FC defeated CF Montreal at home at Stade Saputo amid torrential rain, ousting them from the cup in what could only been seen as an upset. This season, with CF Montreal struggling greatly, surely Forge FC will again be on the hunt, looking to once more knock out an MLS squad from the tournament.
CF Montreal however, have been slowly progressing and have looked a much greater side since interim head coach Marco Donadel has been at the helm. Of late, Donadel has been going with a two striker system, that plays Prince Owusu and Giacomo Vrioni up front, and the results have been positive. While the squad has only two wins on the season, they have been close to finding results in several matches of late, as the ship seems to be coming around, and headed in the right direction.
While Montreal remains at the bottom of the standings, a strong run at the Canadian Championship could help rebuild confidence among the team – and help them extract some revenge on the team that cast them out of the tournament last season.
