Yiwen Chen and Jia Chen win gold in Women’s 3M Synchronized

The one certainty so far at the World Cup of Diving, is that China is going to perform strongly – and that was the case Sunday morning as Jia Chen and Yiwen Chen won gold in the Women’s 3-meter synchronized event.

Jia and Yiwen Chen stunned with a forward 2½ somersaults and a twist in their sixth and final dive, although they already were a considerable ways ahead by that point.

The silver medals went to the Australian duo of Maddison Keeney and Alysha Koloi whom also finished off their campaign with a forward 2½ somersaults and a twist, yet finished twenty six points behind the gold medalists.

Australia had just beaten out the Mexican pair of Lia Yatzil Cueva Lobato and Mia Yatzil Cueva Lobato, teenaged twins from a very respectable diving family, and by the slimmest of margins.

Less than a point between Australia’s 303.42 and Mexico’s 302.16.

The United States of America finished fourth while Canada’s Amelie-Laura Jasmin and Mia Vallee finished the round in fifth place, midway through a very competitive pack.
