2FAST4U
Trois-Rivières skate punk royalty 2FAST4U played a really cool show at Petit Campus this week.
Accompanied by Death by Dingo and Subsistance, the performances were highly energetic despite the tragic lack of humans. These bands are consumate professionals. Despite the lack of attendance, they all played like it was a packed stadium.
Furthermore, the amazing stage lighting and sound made it all the more tragic. On a cooler note, Subsistance seem to be playing more shows, which is incredible but possibly a symptom of a greater World problem. It was great to see them again and in good form. Death by Dingo are a new band but I was impressed by their solid style of skate punk. I remember thinking: ”Why aren’t I seeing more of this band?” The answer to that, is usually: ”Because you’re a dork and you aren’t paying attention.”
Sadly, not many people turned up, which means I hardly have any cool stories to slather on about. As the humans feed me with their tales, so do I relay said drama to you, the hungry reader.

Since there wasn’t much drama, I’ll try to come up with something else. Here it goes.
Everyone all at once

You know what’s really funny about music review writing? A lot of it sounds the same.
And when it doesn’t sound repetitive, it can sound like someone went way to far to show off the various exotic words that have been collecting dust in their brains. Now, let’s say I was reviewing a well know metal band called Human Sacrifice and I didn’t know much about their music, but I had to fit a bunch of words into an article.
What would I write? Ahem- let me teach you the art of music filibustering.
”Human Sacrifice rolled through Montreal like a drunken, American student on St-Laurent during Frosh week, causing absolute musical mayhem. Lead guitarist and band founder, Delinquent Daryl, recently released from prison, was in awesome form. He and the band ripped through most of their early catalogue and surprisingly enough, without puking. Fans were in a catatonic state of orgasmic bliss when they broke into ”Empire of Bones”, arguably one of heavy metal’s most revered bits of riff work since Vial of Purescence’s influencial track ”The Idea of Seeing you Dead is Quite Satisfactory”.”
And there you have it. I could do this for days. In fact, if there was a music review Olympics, I’m pretty sure I’d have a shot at gold. Maybe Silver. Probably Bronze.
It feels good to be arrogant sometimes. In small doses, arrogance can be a decent anti-depressant.
2FAST4U

Boy do these guys jump around a lot! Very fun and challenging to shoot. Unfortunately, they didn’t jump when the lighting was in the right place, so I don’t have great shots of that.
Either that, or I suck. Which is depressing to think about. Back to arrogance!
2FAST4U are low key local legends who have been playing solid skate punk since 1998, the tail end of the aforementioned musical genre’s golden age. I’m ashamed to admit that they haven’t had the honor of having me photograph them since their inception, however we finally got around to it at Montreal’s Petit Campus. One thing that stood out to me was some of the NWOBHM sounding guitar work on a newer track they played. It was great!
I’m looking forward to seeing them again. (I would have used an exclamation point here but I already used one just above and I don’t want to seem too excited)
