CF Montreal have sent Caden Clark to D.C United

The dominoes continue to fall in la belle province, as CF Montreal have made another move, this time sending fan favorite Caden Clark to DC United.

This move comes fresh off the back of another big transfer that saw longtime CF Montreal defenseman Joel Waterman sent to the Chicago Fire, as CF Montreal look to have fully entered the rebuild that was promised to fans just under a month ago.

Caden Clark, 22, is already on his way out of Montreal, having showed glimpses of quality mired by inconsistency, but while CF Montreal has announced it will be entering a rebuild – is it too soon to give up on such a promising young player like Caden Clark? At 18 years old, Clark become the youngest player to score in his first two MLS games. Now, he’s already headed to his fourth MLS club.

In return, the Club will receive $700,000 in cash, as well as a conditional amount of $100,000, in addition to retaining a percentage on the player’s resale value.

CF Montreal acquired Caden Clark from Minnesota United FC on August 8, 2024 – almost a year to the day later, Caden Clark once again has to pack up his bags, as he heads back over the boarder to join DC United.

Caden Clark made an immediate name for himself upon joining CF Montreal, scoring four goals and four assists in 9 matches to cap off the 2024 season. However, Clark hasn’t found the back of the next through 26 games this season although he does has 6 assists to his name.

CF Montreal swapped Jules-Anthony Vilsaint for Matty Longstaff last week, as rivals CF Montreal and Toronto FC made yet another deal. That follows the departure of Greg Campbell, who Montreal sent to Southampton in England’s second-division side West Bromwich Albion.

In June, CF Montreal also parted ways with talented midfielder Nathan Saliba who was dealt to au R.S.C. Anderlecht, while midfielder Dominic Iankovwas sent to Hrvatski Nogometni Klub Rijeka in Croatia. Also of note, last Saturday goalkeeper Emil Gazdov was loaned to Canadian Premier League club Valour FC until the end of the 2025 season.

In would seem that more moves could potentially be on the way as well for CF Montreal, who are currently sitting at the bottom of the Eastern conference, tied with DC United. Montreal has just four wins this season on MLS competition – and just one in front of its home town fans.
