Concordia University’s Stinger Dome has collapsed under snow
Montreal is reeling after the metropolis was pummeled by two massive winter storms in the span of four days – and the Stinger Dome, the indoor sports facility where several teams and leagues practice throughout the winter months, has collapsed as a result.
The two winter storms hit Montreal on Thursday and Sunday, dropping more than seventy centimeters of snow that coupled with extreme winds, has resulted in the Stinger Dome to topple to the ground.

The inflatable structure suffered a tear under the weight of the accumulated snow.
Concordia University says it won’t be able to properly assess the damage until the springtime, and that the Stinger Dome will be out of commission at least for the foreseeable future. Thankfully, nobody was inside the facility when it came down.
This comes as bad news for the Montreal Shamrocks, who play their winter GAA season at the dome. Sports such as Gaelic football, Camogie and hurling – with practices scheduled to take place midweek, and three matches set to take place this coming weekend. Now, their season is in limbo while they search for alternative indoor pitches to play on.
Built in 2019 for an estimated $4.4 million dollars, the dome is erected in the fall in a sports field and normally remains open until April, when outdoor sports and training resume.

City officials cautioned on Monday. that it would take at least eight days to dig itself out from under the accumulation and drifts blown up by gusting winds.
More that half of the sidewalks in the city remain under snow, and presumably will be for some time as city crews do their best to clear away the massive amount of snow.
