Montreal Roses forward Latifah Abdu called up to Canadian squad

Montreal Roses forward Latifah Abdu has been making quite the name for herself so far in the inaugural Northern Super League season, catching not just the eye of her local fan base and coaches, but those of the Canadian national team as well.

With Kansas City Current striker Nichelle Prince injured and unable to play in Canada’s friendly series against Haiti in Winnipeg and in Montreal, Canada’s coach Casey Stoney has called up the Montreal Roses forward to join the squad.

Abdu has proved to be a key component of her Montreal Roses squad, with a bullet shot that she is able to find space to launch at opposing goals – and that is certainly something that Canada will need with striker Prince sidelined.

Abdu is the second replacement summoned to join the Canadian national team. Utah Royals winger Bianca St-Georges was earlier summoned to fill in for veteran Chelsea fullback Ashley Lawrence, who is unavailable due to personal reasons.

The 23-year-old Abdu, the first signing by Montreal’s Northern Super League team, won her first senior cap on December 1st, 2023, against Australia in Langford, B.C.

The 23-year-old from Montreal previously played in France for Soyaux, Metz, Strasbourg, Dijon FCO and En Avant Guingamp.
