FC Supra score five goals to beat Pacific FC and keep their playoff hopes alive

With just five games remaining, beating up on Pacific FC at Stade Boreale might be exactly the medicine the squad needed to keep their playoff pursuit alive – and they did so in front of new head coach Kyt Selaidopoulos no less.

Selaidopoulos took over for Nick Razzaghi, who parted ways with FC Supra this past Monday, and it seems the former Forge FC assistant coach is already having an impact of his new side.

FC Supra had been on a bit of a slide that saw them plummet to the bottom of the Canadian Premier League table, just above Pacific FC who are having a difficult season, to say the least, having earned just two wins so far through twenty-four matches. And while the inaugural season for FC Supra has been going well, what they surely crave most is a spot in the upcoming CPL playoffs, and with today’s win, they move back into a position to make that happen.

Vancouver FC remain five points ahead of FC Supra, but the Quebec side has a game in hand, which should make for an exciting final few weeks in the Canadian Premier League.

This afternoon, the action was most certainly one-sided, as Pacific FC struggled in every facet of the match. Going down early and never finding enough footing to come even remotely close to getting themselves back into the match.

Seventeen minutes into the match, Ibrahim Condé scored off of a fancy bit of footwork, knocking in a backheel. Loïc Kwemi fed a slick pass in for Diyaeddine Abzi who tapped the ball over to Condé who beat Pacific FC goalkeeper Sean Melvin to put FC Supra ahead. It was an audacious play that paid off, and set the tone for what was to come.

Five minutes into the second half, Loïc Kwemi increased FC Supra’s lead to two when he found a rebound off a loose ball that Pacific FC had failed to clear following a Condé shot. It began with a nutmegging and lead to chaos inside the Pacific FC box, before falling to Kwemi who never about to miss from that close.

Seven minutes later, Abzi hammered the nail into Pacific FC’s coffin, when he absolutely smashed a long-distance free kick into the top corner of the net, beyond an outstretched Sean Melvin.

Matisse Chrétien headed in FC Supra’s fourth goal of the contest in the 78th minute, while Noah Santos capped off what was a very miserable outing for Pacific FC, on a cold and wet day, when he capitalized off of another Pacific FC error. This was as one-sided as a soccer game gets.

With thirteen minutes left to play, a strong sliding tackle from Alessandro Biello left Pacific FC forward Yann Toulay pounding his fists into the field in pain. Unfortunately, Toulay would need to be stretched off of the field with what appears to be an lower body injury.

Following the match, Pacific FC coach Terry Dunfield took shots at FC Supra’s grounds, bringing Stade Boreale’s grounds into question. “That pitch is not at the level of professional soccer”, said Dunfield. ” Supra did a nice job of playing to the conditions on an awful pitch under difficult conditions.”

Despite the lopsided score, the truth is that FC Supra could have won by an even largely tally, as several other quality chances didn’t end up in the back of the Pacific FC net. This was a statement game and one that FC Supra needed for their own moral.

FC Supra are next in action on October 7th at York Lions stadium, when they visit Inter Toronto. Three days after that, they welcome Vancouver FC to Stade Boreale in what could be their most important game so far.
