FC Supra roll past the Woodbridge Strikers at the Canadian Championship
The Woodbridge Strikers took on FC Supra, who were playing their first ever contest in the Canadian Championship this evening, at Stade Boreale in Laval.
Woodbridge qualified for the 2026 TELUS Canadian Championship by winning the 2025 League1 Ontario Premier Division title, finishing first in the regular season, earning them this contest against the host expansion Canadian Premier League side.

Bad luck in the opening quarter of an hour, took its toll on the Woodbridge Strikers, who not only lost right-back Carmine Fiore to injury in the thirteenth minute of play, but found themselves giving up a penalty shot on an accidental handball inside their own box.
FC Supra left-back Abzi Diyaeddine stepped out to the dot and fired his penalty beyond the reach of Woodbridge goalkeeper Daniel Clarke, giving the favorites an early lead in the match. But as we have seen this year, like every other year, the Canadian Championship can and does often provide surprises. Atletico Ottawa knocked Toronto FC out of the Championship just days ago, while CF Montreal has been ousted by the Hamilton Forge two years in a row.
However, the Woodbridge Strikers remained vigilant and fought their way back into the contest, scoring a gorgeous goal in the process.
Midfielder Jacob Spizzirri cracked a splintering long ball that shot off like a rocket, curling its way into the top left corner of FC Supra’s net. Goalkeeper Joakim Milli had no chance at reaching the ball and could only watch as the underdog Woodbridge Strikers equaled the score just thirteen minutes after conceding themselves.
FC Supra though, regained the lead just before halftime when Aboubacar Sissoko squeezed a lucky shot passed Clarke, who got his finger tips on the shot but could only watch as it trickled in just out of his reach. FC Supra had been pressing Woodbridge hard in the moments leading up the goal, firing shot after shot that the Strikers did well to keep out, but the eventual and inevitable goal was sure to come.
David Choiniere would find one final goal off of a pass from Bakary Kaboré that split the Woodbridge defense, and fell to Choiniere who slotted it past Clarke. FC Supra lead by a pair with twelve minutes to play.
