CF Montreal defender Ruan sold to FC Dallas
Days after acquiring Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty from Toronto FC, CF Montreal has further shaken up its line-up in a bid to reach the post-season by shipping out defender Ruan to FC Dallas.
Ruan, 29, was acquired by Montreal in December 2023 from D.C. United and is already on the move, sold for $150,000 with a potential extra $50,000 should he meet performance targets set by his new club.

Ruan appeared in 25 games for CF Montreal this season, scoring two goals and adding six assists. FC Dallas will be his fourth MLS club.
Last week, CF Montreal bought Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty from Toronto FC for $1.3M USD. The just-turned 20 year old winger was consisted among the best North American prospects when he joined Toronto at just 15 years old. Montreal has already extended his contract through to the 2027 season.
“The reality is unfortunately we have been pretty quiet in the summer transfer window and that’s not by choice,” said Toronto GM Jason Hernandez. “Really it’s just a product of where the salary cap is.
“We’ve been on a hamster wheel for quite some time with limited funds, making very very strategic market opportunity acquisitions. We need to get out of that cycle. And part of that, unfortunately, is gaining money. And with gaining money in this league, you need to sell assets.”
In what has been a busy transfer period for the club, Montreal acquired U.S. youth international midfielder Caden Clark from Minnesota United in exchange for up to US$150,000 in 2024 general allocation money and a second-round pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft.

A fortnight ago, Montreal also acquired 20 year old full-back Dawid Bugaj and from Italian Serie C club SPAL as well as defender Tom Pearce, 26, from English club Wigan Athletic.
CF Montreal will look quite different when they welcome New England to Stade Saputo on August 24th.
