The world’s best beach volleyball players are returning to Montreal from August 19th to 23rd.

The world’s best beach volleyball players are returning to Montreal for the Montréal Beach Pro Tour. As the only North American stop on the FIVB Beach Pro Tour global circuit, the event will bring together 32 elite teams (16 women’s and 16 men’s), including Olympic champions, world champions, and top-ranked global teams.

Building on the massive success of last year’s edition, the tournament returns to the specially-designed courts at Parc Jean-Drapeau.

Both the women’s and men’s top teams in the world will be competing in Montreal. This is a very high-level field, in line with the fields at this season’s Elite events.

On the women’s side, Canadian stars Melissa Humana-Paredes/Brandie Wilkerson will be back to defend their title for a third time on home soil. Fans will also have the chance to watch Kristen Nuss Cruz/Taryn Kloth Brasher (USA), Thamela Coradello Galil/Victoria Lopes Pereira Tosta (Brazil), Carol Salgado/Rebecca Cavalcanti (Brazil), Tina Graudiņa/Anastasija Kravčenoka (Latvia), Ana Patrícia Ramos/Eduarda ’Duda’ Lisboa (Brazil) et Megan Kraft/Kelly Cheng (USA). All ranked among the top ten teams in the world, they promise a high-caliber tournament.

The men’s draw promises equal excitement, bringing together the world’s absolute elite with the presence of David Åhman/Jonathan Hellvig (Sweden), Anders Mol/Christian Sørum (Norway), Bartosz Łosiak/Michal Bryl (Poland), Mārtiņš Pļaviņš/Kristiāns Fokerots (Latvia), Evandro Gonçalves Oliveira Júnior/Arthur Diego Mariano Lanci (Brazil), teams firmly established in the world’s top 10. Also worth watching: Elouan Chouikh-Barbez/Joadel Gardoque (France), a rising team on the circuit.

The presence of so many top-tier teams undeniably confirms the event’s prominent status on the international Beach Pro Tour circuit.

“Welcoming the world’s best athletes to Montreal is an immense source of pride and proves that our tournament has rapidly become a must-attend stop on the global Beach Pro Tour circuit,” said Alex Ratthé, executive director of the Montreal Beach Pro Tour. “Seeing the planet’s top players compete in a beach volleyball stadium built right in the heart of the city at Parc Jean-Drapeau creates an experience that is unique in North America. Every element is in place to deliver a fierce competition and a thrilling show for the 20,000 enthusiastic fans we expect to see in the stands.”

A Premier Showcase for Canadian Athletes

In addition to headliners Humana-Paredes/Wilkerson, Canada will be heavily represented. The team of Sam Schachter/Jonny Pickett earned a spot in the main draw based on their ranking. Main draw wildcards have been awarded to the pairing of Marie-Alex Bélanger/Lea Monkhouse, while Guillaume Rivest/Martin Licht (men) and Molly McBain/Ruby Sorra (women) received wildcards for the qualifiers.

“As a beach volleyball Olympian, I know how crucial it is to host a World Tour stop right here in Montreal,” said Marie-Andrée Lessard, Olympian and senior director, games, Canadian Olympic Committee. “This is an exceptional opportunity for our Canadian and Quebec athletes to measure themselves against the world’s elite in front of friends, family, and home crowd, while inspiring the next generation of players. The teams confirmed today promise an outstanding level of play and spectacular matchups. As an event ambassador, I am incredibly proud to help showcase our sport, and I cannot wait to join the fans on site to experience this huge celebration of beach volleyball.”
