The STM strike will make attending the Montreal Roses game a challenge

The STM transit strike will make attending the Roses playoff game a challenge.

The Montreal Roses are playing their first ever playoff game in franchise history this Saturday, but the STM transit strike is going to make attending the game very difficult.

This morning, the STM announced that there will be no metro services on weekends for the month of November – on top of the already announced three day bus and metro conductor strike, which complete eradicated all services for three full days.

The first of those three full days without any service is November 1st – the day that the Montreal Roses are hosting AFC Toronto at Stade Boreale in Laval.

While the stadium is already difficult to reach for Montreal supporters, a shuttle service that runs from Cartier metro station has helped ease the travel burden, only now, public transit users coming to Laval from the island of Montreal won’t have a way to reach these shuttles, which means attendance for the game could well be unjustly low.

At the same time, the STM expects its passengers to continue paying full price for monthly passes, while offering little to no service in return, in a city that has spent years trying to urge its citizens to ditch their own vehicles for the “convenience” of public transportation.

As usual, those that will suffer from these strikes, are those that shouldn’t. Citizens wanting to cheer on their team, the staff who rely on public transit to get to and from work – and of course the team itself, that deserves to be playing in front of a packed stadium.

Action kicks off at noon at Stade Boreale, for those lucky enough to have a way to get to the stadium.
