Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty has been loaned to Charlotte FC, while midfielder Olger Escobar joins the squad from the New England Revolution
In the dwindling moments of the MLS transfer window, CF Montreal made a pair of moves, both involving young players including newly acquired Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty, in attempt to shake up a squad that has largely underperformed far this season.
The first of the two moves, the season-long loan of defensive-back Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty to Charlotte FC, is something of a surprise move as Marshall-Rutty was among the key moves made late last season, that helped bolster CF Montreal’s roster enough to earn them a playoff wild car appearance.

The following day, the move to loan out Marshall-Rutty began to show a little more clarity, as CF Montreal acquire promising midfielder Olger Escobar from the New England Revolution.
CF Montreal bought Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty from Toronto FC for $1.3M USD late last season, in a bid to bring more youth into an aging squad. The just-turned 20 year old winger was considered to be among the best North American prospects when he joined Toronto at just 15 years old. Montreal has already extended his contract through to the 2027 season, which means that Marshall-Rutty will more than likely rejoin the CF Montreal squad next season.
This season, Marshall-Rutty earned two starts in six games played for a total of 228 minutes.
Charlotte FC $100,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2025 for Marshall-Rutty’s services. CF Montréal then sent $125,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM) and $50,000 in conditional GAM to New England for Escobar. New England will also retain a sell-on percentage of Escobar’s future transfer.
Wasting no time, CF Montreal has already signed Escobar to a contract for the 2025 and 2026 seasons along with option years in 2027, 2028 and 2029.

“We are pleased to welcome Olger to our Club,” said CF Montréal President and CEO Gabriel Gervais. “He is a high-potential, creative player with great offensive flair and technical ability.”
The 18-year-old is a product of the Revolution academy. During the 2022-2023 season, Escobar was named MLS NEXT U17 MVP and helped the Revolution’s U19 team win the MLS NEXT Cup during the same year. He also received the New England Revolution’s 2022-23 Academy Player of the Year award.
