Courtney Sarault wins the Women’s 1500m at the ISU Short Track World Tour
Moncton, New Brunswick’s Courtney Sarault won her second gold medal of the weekend on Sunday when she performed brilliantly during the Women’s 1500 meter race. Sarault was fresh off of winning the women’s 1,000-metre final the previous day.
Sarault was also part of the Canadian mixed relay squad alongside Danaé Blais, Steven Dubois and Felix Roussel who combined to take bronze earlier in the day during the 2000 meter mixed relay race.

In the women’s 1500 meter race, Sarault (2:22.156) edged out Korea’s Kim Gilli (2:22.217) and American Corrine Stoddard (2:22.256) by the narrowest of margins.
“I was going into the 1,500 meters thinking I could maybe win the race, but I wasn’t sure how my legs would be compared to everyone else’s. This is my first time doing this World Tour format, with the 500 meters and 1500 meters on the same day, so I am proud of myself for finishing those races the way I did,” said Sarault.
“Making an A Final in the 500 meters was nice for me and I’m going to build off that. And I felt I raced well in my 1500 meters win, I was in front and strong. I’m happy that all my hard work and training is paying off. It’s nice when you train for something and get results.”

The Canadian Maples had a strong showing throughout the weekend, winning seven medals, including three gold, one silver and three bronze, placing themselves atop the overall medal standings, ahead of Korea (six), China (four) and Italy (four).
Canada currently sit second in the Team Crystal Globe ranking with 1,376 points, while Sarault leads the women’s trophy race with 250 points.
