The Halifax Tides FC have earned their first win, defeating the Ottawa Rapid FC
It was just a matter of time before the Halifax Tides FC would earn their first win in franchise history, and fate that determined that they would earn that win against one of the leagues top teams and at home, in front of their fans.
Inadvertently, the Tides FC have also set a league record, becoming the last team in the leagues original six squads to earn a win – but while that may some day be useful knowledge at a pub trivia quiz night, it is something the Tides FC will want to put behind them, as they focus on building on their victory.

Yet, not only did the Halifax Tides FC finally get a win under their collective belts, they did it in a well fought battle against one of the top teams in the league, and looked convincing while doing it.
The Ottawa Rapid FC came into the game in a four-way deadlock for the top spot in the Northern Super League; a lead that the Montreal Roses FC had reclaimed a few days earlier by defeating the Vancouver Rise FC. Halifax Tides FC are still in last place but now have a solid foundation upon which to build, and with a lot of soccer left to play this season, may just find themselves in a far better spot to end this, the first ever NSL campaign.
Ottawa opened the scoring early on, when Olivia Scott headed in a cross from a corner kick, high and into the top left corner of the goal.
Halifax though, fought back and despite almost conceding a second goal, turned the tide on the pitch and the momentum began to swing in their favor. Megumi Nakamura tied the match in the 58th minute, when a blocked shot fell to her boot just yards from the goal line, and she made no mistake in thumping the ball hard into the netting.
With a quarter of an hour to play, Gunnhildur Yrsa Jonsdottir scored a beautiful volley to put the Halifax Tides FC ahead. The play came off another corner kick, that bounced off a few heads before caught the ball with a brilliant effort on the edge of the box, sending it screaming into the open goal.
From there, the Halifax Tides FC held on with everything they had, clearing a ball off of their own goal line just seconds before the final whistle went.

Gauged by the reaction of the Tides FC squad, who huddled together at the final whistle, a huge weight has been lifted off of their collective shoulders.
