The 200th edition of the Montreal St. Patrick’s day parade is getting ready
It is early March in Montreal and that can only mean two things – spring is finally just around the corner, as is the 200th edition of the Montreal St. Patrick’s day parade.
Montreal’s festivities are the longest running behind only those of New York, and have been an integral part of Montreal culture since 1824 – but this year marks an incredible two centuries of longevity, making this years parade one for the history books.

This years parade will run along the same route as last year, which took it away from its traditional Ste-Catherine’s street running, up a block onto the corner of Fort street and De Maisonneuve where it will conclude at the corner of Saint-Urban. Doing so gives spectators easy access, as this trek passes by four different metro stations.
The parade gets underway at noon on the 16th of March – and concludes at 3 o’clock, where the celebrations will no doubt spill into the pubs and food establishments about the downtown Montreal core. Like the Irish, Montreal never needs a reason to party.
Those attending with small children should also be aware that drinking on the sidewalks will be taking place and that the possibility for rowdiness, however small, should be expected.

Road closures can be expected, making public transit the optimal way to reach the parade, and with four metro stations just feet for the parade root, at Guy-Concordia, Peel, McGill and Place Des Arts on the STM’s green line.
