Jamison Battle signs a three-year deal with the Toronto Raptors

A day after trading for all-star Brandon Ingram from the New Orleans Pelicans, the Toronto Raptors continued the reshaping of their squad by inking small forward Jamison Battle to a three-year deal.

Battle had been playing the Raptors NBA G League affiliate, the Raptors 905, where he has been a threat throwing three-pointers. In fifteen NBA G League games this year, Battle is averaging 12.7 points on 46 percent shooting from three – something that the Raptors could sorely use. In short, Battle is reaping the rewards for his solid play with the 905.

The Ingram trade opened up a roster spot that made room for Battle by shipping veterans Bruce Brown and Kelly Olynyk as well as a first round and a second round draft pick to the Pelicans.

With 31 games remaining, Jamison should see a lot of court for the Toronto Raptors, who are currently sat in a sort of no-man’s land between a potential run to a playoff spot or a rebuilding faze for the future. With Ingram now onboard, the squad could conceivably sway either way.

Battle beat out Branden Carlson, earning a two-way spot on the roster to start the season. Since then. he has appeared in 35 games for the Raptors, shooting 41.7 percent from three. The Raptors have used part of its remaining mid-level exception to sign Battle for the rest of this season, by converting his existing two-way contract into this new deal. Battle was signed to his two-way day after going undrafted following a solid career with Ohio State.

The Raptors have one more open standard spot and one available two-way contract following the move. With the Raptors lacking frontcourt depth with Kelly Olynyk with the New Orleans Pelicans and Jakob Poeltl sidelined, the team could sign Orlando Robinson to a two-way deal. Robinson’s second 10-day contract expired on Feb. 6 and the Raptors can’t sign him to another.

Jamison Battle will be available for the Raptors when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder later on today.
