Madeline Schizas wins third Canadian women’s figure skating title
Oakville, Onatario’s 21-year-old sensation, Madeline Schizas, is back on top of the Canadian figure skating world, as she reclaimed her crown on Sunday, skating a fantastic routine that won over the hearts of a jam-packed Place Bell in Laval.
Schizas won both the 2022 and 2023 Canadian National Skating competitions, before being beaten last year in Calgary by another of the countries best skaters, Calgarian Kaiya Reuter. Now, she sits atop the throne for a third time.

Madeline Schizas was the final skater of the program – a spot she seems to hold often, and one that brings her a considerable amount of anxiety. Waiting in the dressing room, hearing the roaring of the crowd as each of her competitors hit the ice before her.
“Every Canadian senior nationals I’ve skated at, I’ve skated last in the free skate, every year it rolls around, and it never gets easier.”
Yet none of that seemed to bother Schizas as she stormed out of the gate, possessed to skate, and did so with beautiful precision. Schizas landed seven triples to score 133.87 points in the free skate, bringing her total to 203.87 and setting a new Canadian record in the process.
Montreal’s Sara-Maude Dupuis had the fans on their feet with a blistering 182.61 performance that looked like it might hold out for gold, ultimately earning her silver, while Ottawa’s Katherine Medland Spence took bronze with 181.55.

“The first two times it was just like a whirlwind,” Schizas said. “This time I was coming in not Canadian champion, so it was definitely a different situation and I think it means a little bit more regaining the title.”
Now that the 2025 Canadian National Skating Championships in Laval have concluded, Schizas will have her focus set on continuing her dominance in a bid to earn herself a spot with Team Canada at 2026 Olympics in Milan, Italy.
