The Delaware Blue Coats add to the Long Island Nets woes in Laval

The Long Island Nets are in the midst of a losing streak but have shown great things during their five-game skid – including narrowly dropping their last match, also at Laval’s Place Bell, by a single point in overtime to the Greensboro Swarm. Such is the nature of the game.

Tonight, they took on the Delaware Blue Coats, the NBA G League associate of the Philadelphia 76ers, hoping for the bounces to go their way, which wasn’t to be the case, as the Blue Coats gave the Nets a touch time, emerging with a 133-127 victory.

The Long Island Nets got off to the start they wanted, charging ahead shooting 68.2 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from deep – the hot start they needed in order to snap this losing streak. The Delaware Blue Coats seemed to snap out of their haze midway through the opening quarter, and matched the Nets, as the first quarter ended tied at 37 points a piece.

The second quarter was a constant change of lead as the two teams matched up perfectly. As good as the Nets were, the Blue Coats keep on matching their effort, and by the time the teams headed to their dressing rooms for the half-time intermission, the Delaware Blue Coats had pulled ahead by six points, and held a 69 to 63 point lead.

Again, the Nets stormed into the third quarter and thoroughly outplayed the Blue Coats, outscoring them in the period but the Blue Coats did enough to retain a two point lead going into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, the momentum switched as it seemed the Nets had begun to gas out and where now fading on the court. Delaware though, some had a few miles left on the odometer and did just enough to remain ahead, earning a 133-127 win and handing the Nets yet another loss.

Killian Hayes and Drew Timme returned to the Nets line-up, while Oshae Brissett sat out due to a hamstring injury.

Hayes posted a double-double with 25 points and 11 assists to go along with two steals, while Drew Timme put up wo points. Trevon Scott and Mark Armstrong also put up 20 points a piece while guard Tyson Etienne recorded 17 points, three rebounds and two steals

Delaware guard Judah Mintz posted a game-high 45 points in addition to three rebounds and four assists in 38 minutes. Blue Coats forward Jarron Cumberland recorded 26 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals in 44 minutes.

The Long Island Nets deserve better than the results they’ve been dealt in this losing streak, and if there’s a positive to take away from this string of defeats its that the team is playing well regardless of the scoreboard, and there is every reason to believe that their luck will change if they continue to battle through these hardships.

The Long Island Nets will face Windy City Bulls at Nassau Coliseum during the team’s Education Day on February 11th. Meanwhile, the Delaware Blue Coats will travel to face Motor City Cruise on February 12th.
