905 get their revenge on the Nets in Montreal, by a score of 122-118

The Toronto Raptors 905 came to play in the second of six games to be played at Laval’s Place Bell, where the Long Island Nets – the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, have temporarily rebranded themselves as the Montreal Nets or Les Nets – and so far have found a very warm welcome.

Both games that took place at Place Bell this week did so in front of near sell-out crowds the likes the NBA G League seldom see, as Montreal proved itself as a basketball city once again.

The Nets found themselves trailing the Raptors 905 for much of the contest, down 5 points by half-time. They rallied to start the 3rd quarter but Toronto were determined to stay ahead. Their efforts paid off, as the quarter ended with the Nets ahead by two, 94-92.

The final frame was a thrilling back-and-forth offensive explosion that probably had both coaches screaming at their benches about defense. The crowd, on the other hand, were loving every second of it, as both teams knocked down bucket after bucket. It came down to the final three minutes of play, where the Nets undisciplined play lead to free throws that ultimately put the game out of reach, as the Toronto Raptors 905 held on to take the win.

One of the many highlights between these two back to back games, was the match-up at center that saw Drew Timme against Frank Kaminsky. Kaminsky spent 8 seasons in the NBA, as a member of the Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets and was a player Timme watched growing up.

“I grew up a fan of his game,” said Timme and a post-game press conference. “It’s cool to play against someone you grew up watching.”

Timme went to say he has been working on his defensive play, especially his defensive rebounding, and believes that his continued hard work will lead to opportunities in the future. Judging by his high offensive output these last two games in Montreal, and how hard of a time he gave Kaminsky – that chance should be just around the corner.

Kaminsky still found a way to drop 18 points, 5 rebounds and a steal for the Raptors 905 while Eugene Omoruyi added 24 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal

Timme again put up a double-double as he had two nights ago in this building, playing a pivotal role in the Nets offense while also trying to slow down a talented Raptors 905 attack. It was Timme’s sixth regular season double-double that he compounded with a game leading 29 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists.

Trevon Scott also hit a double-double for the Montreal Nets, his fourth of the season, putting up 20 points and 10 rebounds as well as 4 assist and 2 steals. Scott also hit 4 three-point shots on the night.

Nets guard Killian Hayes continued to wow the packed Place Bell, by putting up 26 points. Although he didn’t hit a double-double today, his 6 assists and 6 rebounds kept the Nets in the game. Hayes is seemingly becoming a crowd favorite in Montreal already, just two games into the six the Nets are scheduled to play.
