Roman Sadovsky wins his second Canadian figure skating title

It has been a lengthy stretch since Vaughan, Ontario’s Roman Sadovsky has stood atop a podium, but through hard work and perseverance Sadovsky is once again at the top of Canadian figure skating realm.

It has been five years, but the now 25-year-old Sadovsky has regaining the title he first won in 2020, as he captured his second gold medal in the men’s competition at the Canadian figure skating championships with a dominant and dazzling display on Saturday.

Sadovsky scored 158.91 points in an intense free program despite falling on a quad salchow jump, which no doubt must had put a shimmer of doubt into his head. Still, this tally put his two-run total at 240.35 and into the top position. Sadovsky finished in sixth place at last years Canadian National Skating Championship in Calgary – and a strong skate from local favorite, Broisbriand’s Anthony Paradis here in Laval, look almost certain to have taken the gold.

Paradis skated to a roaring crowd that erupted at its conclusion, as the 17-year old Paradis put up an astounding 225.56; ultimately good enough to take silver. Paradis himself was overcome with emotion, punching the ice in celebration at the near flawless run, with the raucous support of Place Bell loudly reacting as well. Richmond, British Columbia’s David Li, earned a combined score of 197.99 to take bronze.

The difficult path that was laid at the feet of Sadovsky makes his return to the top rung of the podium that much more sweet. He began the campaign with an ankle injury and missed one event because he lost his luggage, including his skates. Then, he pulled out of another when his plane couldn’t land due to a snowstorm.

No doubt that Sadovsky will now be hoping to be among those selected to compete in Boston this coming March, where a strong finish could land him on Team Canada, and a second men’s spot for the 2026 Olympics in Milan, Italy.

The 2025 Canadian National Skating Championship concludes tomorrow, with the senior women’s free and the senior free dance – the day is already completely sold out!
