Jacob Fowler signs an entry-level deal with the Montreal Canadiens
The goaltending situation in Montreal got a little more interesting today, as the Habs top goaltending prospect, Jacob Fowler, has signed a three year entry level contract with the Canadiens.
He then signed an amateur try-out contract with the Laval Rocket, the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, and will join the play-off bound Laval squad for the remainder of their season.

Fowler, 20, was selected by the Canadiens in the third round, 69th overall, at the 2023 NHL Draft held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, and is a highly regarded prospect.
He has spent the last two seasons playing for Boston College in the NCAA where he has accrued solid numbers. Across 35 games in 2023-24, Fowler recorded a 25-7-2 record, a 1.63 goals-against average, and a .940 save percentage. HE also played three games at the 2024 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships for Team USA, winning a gold medal.
Now, Fowler will tackle the next obstacle on his path to the NHL, when he joins the Laval Rocket – a team that has been reaping the benefits of having Cayden Primeau in nets. Primeau has been near perfect with the Rocket since his demotion to the team from the Montreal Canadiens, in favor of Jakob Dobes.
While Primeau has been solid for the Rocket, Dobes has been good in his role backing up Samuel Montembeault in Montreal.
The Laval Rocket also have goaltender Connor Hughes on their roster, who at the of 28, is probably close the end of his tenure with the organization. Hughes signed a one year deal with the Montreal Canadiens last June, and is a free agent as of July 1st.
However, Primeau too is on an expiring contract that ends this summer – but will become a restricted free agent who more that likely returns to form a tandem duo with Fowler for next season.

Meanwhile, the Habs defeated their bitter rivals the Boston Bruins tonight to keep themselves in the second wild card position and in a play-off spot, with only seven games remaining in the regular season.
With rookie defenseman Lane Hutson leader all rookies in the NHL currently, and earmarked by many to be the leading candidate for the Calder trophy this year, Oliver Kapanen returns to the team and with the incredibly talented Ivan Demidov set to join the Canadiens next season as well, the future for the Montreal Canadiens keeps getting brighter.
